Perth Glory coach Kenny Lowe conceded his side did not deserve anything following their FFA Cup exit to Heidelberg United.
A Kenny Athui strike just after half time saw Heidelberg seal a historic 1-0 win over the A-League side on Tuesday.
Glory become the fourth A-League side to be knocked out of the FFA Cup by an NPL outfit in its history, joining Central Coast Mariners, Adelaide United and Western Sydney Wanderers.
Heidelberg were good value for their victory, however, dominating the Glory on the shot count.
And Lowe admits the result was a fair one in the end.
“Obviously I was very disappointed that we didn’t progress, and I thought on the night that we didn’t deserve to progress," Lowe said.
“You have to do a bit more than we actually did to earn the right to go through.
“We had the odd little sniff in front of goal, but overall I didn’t feel that we deserved to get anything out of the game.
“They [Heidelberg] had the big moment and they took it. Athiu finished his chance superbly and their desire to compete was greater than ours, unfortunately."
Lowe added:
“We’ll roll with it,” he said. “Things happen for a reason and we’ll just have to do things differently now.
“We were hoping and wanting to get through and now our plans have to change, but everything is fluid in pre-season and we’ll start to look at other options.”
One of the only positives of the nights was the debut of new signing Jake Brimmer, who looked good in patches for the Glory.
“I thought Brimmer did really well for us on debut," Lowe said.
“He got a bad knock on his calf late on and it spasmed, so we took him off. But it’s nothing serious. I also thought Daniel Stynes was bright when he came on, trying to affect the game.”
