Matildas superstar Samantha Kerr is back in Australia and happy to fly the flag for the women’s game ahead of the start of the W-League season.
Kerr arrived back in Perth on Wednesday morning from the United States where she’s been playing for Sky Blue FC, before appearing at Glory’s season launch.
The 24-year-old forward returns fresh from claiming the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Golden Boot, having scored a competition record 17 goals.
Kerr also claimed records for most goals in a NWSL game and most hat-tricks in a NWSL season.
All this after leading the Matildas to glory at the Tournament of Nations in the United States in July and August.
Kerr was last month overlooked for the Best FIFA Women’s Player Award but returns to her home city with newfound interest, having helped the Matildas beat Brazil twice recently in front of sold-out crowds in Penrith and Newcastle.
“It’s really good for women’s football,” Kerr said.

“I think it’s been a long time coming. I’m happy to fly the flag, whether it’s for Perth Glory, the Matildas or Sky Blue.
“I’m just happy the women’s game is finally getting the recognition it deserves.”
The 2017/18 W-League season commences on October 27 with Kerr to be the star name in the competition.
Kerr’s Glory finished runners-up last season but she is hopeful of going one further.
“It’s exciting. We gained a lot of great players and we’ve kept a lot of good players around,” she said.
“We snagged a few from other teams and have some new internationals which is always exciting. Speaking to the girls, they’re really excited.”
Kerr will enjoy a week off before joining her Glory teammates in training.
