The Perth Glory star became the all-time leading goal scorer in the United States’ National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) in the beginning of the month after her hat-trick helped Sky Blue FC overcome a two-goal deficit to beat Kansas City 3-2.

She has scored 11 goals so far this season and is second on the tally behind Seattle Reign winger Megan Rapinoe.

The 23-year-old is currently in Seattle with the Matildas and will take on USA today at midday (AEST) to commence the 2017 Tournament of Nations.

Kerr became a social media sensation when she broke the NWSL record but the Fremantle-born Matilda was keeping a humble approach on the milestone.

“I think all athletes are used to that thing and you turn Twitter off for a few days and then it’s blown up a little bit,” Kerr told FourFourTwo.

“I don’t really read too much into it or get ahead of myself, it’s nice to feel a little bit of love but I definitely don’t read into it.

“The season is still going so anyone can really take it from you but I guess it’s one of those things you look back on at the end of your career but at the moment I haven’t thought about it that much.

“This is my fifth year in the league but I feel like I’m used to it now, every player you get to play overseas is an opportunity to learn and grow so I feel like anytime you’re overseas is beneficial so I’m really enjoying my time over there.”

USA are currently ranked first in the world and while coach Alen Stajcic told FourFourTwo last week 2017 was about depth building, Kerr said the Matildas wanted win the tournament.

Australia will then take on Japan in San Diego and then Brazil in Carson.

Stajcic has also brought in a number of youngsters, Alex Chidiac, Ellie Carpenter and Princess Ibini-Isei.

“We’re really excited, I think all the girls have come into camp feeling fresh and excited to come and play against some of the best teams in the world and have some really good competition,” she said.

“It’s always nice to see young players in, but I don’t really care if you’re young or old. I just want the best players in the squad  at all times and I think if you’re good enough then I want you in the squad and that only makes the team better.

“We’re here to win. We want to win the whole tournament. It’s good for us going forward, that we can beat the best teams in the world but every game we go into, the main thing we want is to come out with three points.”
