On a night celebrating women's sport in Australia, Samantha Kerr took home the Women's Health Sportswoman of the Year.

The 24-year-old Perth-born striker has enjoyed a stunning year which has included winning the W-League's Julie Dolan Medal and top scorer in USA's National Women's Soccer League.

Kerr also scored a hat-trick in a 4-2 win over Japan during Australia's triumph at the Tournament of Nations in the USA in July and August.

Kerr was shortlisted alongside Sally Pearson (hurdles), Britt Cox (mogul skiing), Isis Holt (para-athlete), Emma Mckeon (swimming) and Rhiannan Iffland (high diving).

The Matildas won the A-Team of the Year ahead of the AFLW's Adelaide Crows, netball's Sunshine Coast Lightning, WBBL's Sydney Sixers and water polo's Aussie Stingers.

Australia's Tournament of Nations triumph against top nations USA, Japan and Brazil was a significant highlight.

The Matildas returned to home soil in September for a captivating two-match series against Brazil where they won both games, 2-1 and 3-2.
