Kewell, who has been in the news this week after a public dispute with journalist Robbie Slater, produced some of his finest wizardry to help Cimbom recover from a two-goal deficit in Istanbul.

The 31-year-old Australian provided a pinpoint left-foot cross for Milan Baros on 59 minutes to make it 2-1, after Karpaty had raced to a two-goal lead before the break.

The former Leeds and Liverpool star then showed some wonderful skill on the left-hand side of the box before whipping in a low cross which Baros converted from close-range for an 85th minute equaliser.

Kewell, along with fellow Aussie Lucas Neill, both played full games.

Elsewhere, Socceroos World Cup sensation Brett Holman provided a goal and an assist as AZ Alkmaar defeated Aktobe 2-0 in the Netherlands.

Holman broke the deadlock on 19 minutes, before setting up Pontus Wernbloom for AZ's second on 27 minutes.

The Socceroo was replaced on 77 minutes, while fellow Aussie James Holland wasn't in the matchday squad.

Meanwhile, Socceroo Nathan Burns was a 71st minute substitute as AEK Athens won 1-0 against Dundee United in Scotland.

Shane Lowry was an unused substitute as Aston Villa drew 1-1 at Rapid Vienna, while Tommy Oar was left on the pine as FC Utrecht went down 2-0 at Celtic.

New Liverpool signing Brad Jones wasn't in the Reds matchday squad as they narrowly defeated Trabzonspor 1-0, while Ante Covic was an unused sub as IF Elfsborg lost 1-0 at Napoli and young goalkeeper Mitch Langerak was also on the bench as Dortmund defeated Qarabag 4-0.
