Socceroos legend Harry Kewell clearly doesn’t let things go easily and says his Brazilian opponents at the 2006 World Cup were “embarrassed” after a lopsided refereeing performance.
Australia lost to Brazil 2-0 at the 2006 World Cup in Munich, but ultimately progressed through the group into the last 16 where the Socceroos heartbreakingly lost 1-0 to Italy.
Kewell, who was a 56th minute substitute against Brazil, slammed the performance of the referee that day, German Marcus Merk.
“Everybody in the stadium saw it,” Kewell told Fox Sports’ Shootout program.
“I think Brazil to a point were embarrassed. Every time we touched them, they went down, they got a free-kick.
“I made it clear to the referee at the end of the game.”

Kewell wasn't letting the issue go lightly and labelled the referee’s performance as ridiculous.
“I don’t mind losing, I don’t like it but as long as it’s fair,” he said.
“If you lose you hold your hand up and say I wasn’t at my best.
“When things are against you and it’s ridiculous, I can understand one or two decisions, but 60 that’s a little bit (too much).
“(There were) No expectations (for us to win) but it doesn’t help when the referee gives them about 60 free kicks.
“It’s not an excuse, it’s a fact.”
