Harry Kewell is giving back to grassroots football by offering personalised training starting next month in regional Victoria.
Plans are also underway to have a Melbourne based Academy in 2017 to ensure children are offered the same opportunities he was.
The former Socceroo travelled to England at age 15 to trial with English Premier League (EPL) club Leeds United and debuted for the club at 17.
“Your child will learn my methods, and at every opportunity I get I’ll be hands on with the coaching,” Kewell said. “It’s the way I learned to play and what I perfected in my 26-year professional career. I know these methods work, whether you’re playing under 10s in a suburban league, or in the World Cup.”
“My aim is to give back to football in Australia at a grassroots level. To date we have held over 72 Masterclasses Australia wide in metro & regional towns. It’s now time to take it a step further, and build our permanent Academy. My aim is to find the stars of tomorrow and help them achieve their goals and make them better and provide a pathway.”
Fresh from coaching the U23’s at Watford FC in England, Kewell will be travelling to Australia to coach at HKA Masterclasses in Colic, Warrnambool, Mount Gambier, Mount Waverley & Pakenham in May and June.
“I’ve had an amazing time at Watford, and learnt so much. Regretfully results haven’t been on my side, however I’m extremely proud as 3 of my players have made their debut for the first team and 5 others have been in the squad,” Kewell said.
“I’ll always be grateful to Watford for giving me my start to achieve my childhood dream. I’m excited to give my Academy in Australia some more time and am equipped for my next challenge. My goal since I was 12 was to be a Manager for a first team, and I’ve been preparing for that possibility to become a reality” said Kewell from England this week.”
The permanent academy will have professional coaches hand-picked by Kewell and will be open to players aged six-17.
“We teach respect for the ball and what that means. It’s how I was taught” Kewell said.
Places are capped for each clinic to ensure the one-on-one support offered by the Harry Kewell Academy.
Parents are encouraged to register for clinics via the Harry Kewell Academy Website.
