Sources close to Socceroo superstar Harry Kewell told www.au.fourfourtwo.com today that the 28-year-old Aussie star is targeting a return in the next few weeks.
However, it's understood that the Liverpool medical staff will have the final call on the decision.
This means that Kewell may be available for the Reds' UEFA Champions League quarter final against PSV Eindhoven, the club side of his Socceroos teammate Jason Culina.
Kewell had originally hoped to return in February for Liverpoolo's Champions League encounter with Barcelona.
The sources also confirmed that if fit, Kewell will be available for the Socceroos' Uruguay and Argentina blockbusters in Sydney and Melbourne in early June as well as July's Asian Cup campaign.
Kewell's last game for the Socceroos was the epic final group game against Croatia at Germany 06, where the attacking left-sided midfielder scored the Aussies' decisive second goal.
Since then, he's suffered from an injury originally diagnosed as gout but later identified as septic arthritis which has kept him out of competitive football.
