Kewell's arrival is the final piece in the Socceroo jigsaw ahead of Wednesday night's World Cup qualifier with Uzbekistan with the Galatasaray forward expected to train today (Friday).
The Socceroos had a light training session at a stormy Parramatta stadium yesterday where new arrivals Tim Cahill, Bruce Djite and Mark Bresciano were restricted to light jogging at the session.
This was followed by a meet and greet at a local shopping centre. Around 400 Socceroo fans were thrilled to get close to their heroes at Parramatta Westfield tonight.
With Fox Sports' Mel McLaughlan as MC, the Socceroos spoke of the group's determination to win against Uzbekistan to get close as possible to securing their spot in South Africa 2010.
Meanwhile Socceroo midfielder Mile Jedinak has joined the chorus of players saying their Socceroo chances are enhanced by leaving the country.
"I've always wanted to play for the national team and moving to Turkey I knew my chances would be a lot greater than if I was to stay in Australia," he said today.
The 24-year-old left Central Coast Mariners on New Year's Eve and has played in every game since the mid-season break with his Turkish club Genclerbirligi.
Looking beyond this World Cup cycle, Jedinak is firming as the first choice holding midfielder alongside Carl Valeri.
The pair in the Young Socceroos together and are at an age when they can hold down spots for the Brazil 2014 campaign.
"If I get an opportunity hopefully I can cement that chance.Until then there are players in front of me," Jedinak said. "So I'm not going to look ahead of myself too much but given the opportunity I'll hopefully take it."
First choice Socceroo holding midfielder Jason Culina certainly thinks so with the PSV man giving Jedinak his seal of approval. He says the former Mariner is ready now to play regularly in the national team.
