Kewell said he was ready to play last Sunday against Brisbane Roar, but he was overruled by coach John Aloisi who elected not to risk him.
 
And his return this weekend has now been ruled out after injuring his an ankle in training yesterday, putting him out of contention for another two weeks.
 
Kewell has now missed the past three games for Heart after picking up a neck injury in their opening round clash against his former club Melbourne Victory.
 
The 35-year-old was looking at making his return this Friday night against reigning Premiers Western Sydney Wanderers at AAMI Park, but will now be out until at least round seven.
 
Before his latest injury, Kewell was looking forward to getting a run this weekend after the frustration of being forced to stay on the sidelines last weekend.
 
“I’m 100%,” said Kewell before training on Wednesday. “There’s been a few things that have come up and we’ve dealt with them on a private matter. 
 
“The good thing is they’re all under control now and we can look forward to the season. I wanted to play but it was a decision by my boss and you’ve got to respect that.
 
“I felt I was fully fit, I wanted to play but it was a decision by my manager which I respected. I did all the work that was necessary. 
 
“As a footballer you don’t take your position lightly, you’ve got to work for it. But I’ll be working hard to force my way in to the team.”
 
Heart currently sits in last position on the A-League table after four games but Kewell believes results are just around the corner.
 
“It’s been unfortunate,” he said. There’s been occasions where we’ve played through teams and opened them up and the ball’s just gone the wrong side of the post.
 
“But that’s football, you’ve got to make these corrections and I’m sure the players are fully aware of that and they’re gonna start doing the proper thing.
 
“When you look at the game and you look at the actual shots the ball’s gone literally the other side of the post. That’s the difference, Brisbane’s didn’t, theirs went between the sticks. 
 
“All the boys are disappointed because they played so well and they did what they had to do. We had a plan to go out there but we just didn’t finish it. At the end of the day, goals win games.
 
“This club’s thriving and it’s on the brink of doing something special and I want to be a part of that. They’ve got the right people in here, the right players, the right coaching staff and it’s exciting times for Melbourne Heart. 
 
“If the results just go our way a little bit more then you’re gonna get a lot more focus in on us.”
 
Kewell was excited to finally get the chance to link up with striker Michael Mifsud against the Wanderers, after the Maltese missed Heart’s round one clash due to international duty, but Heart fans will have to wait a bit longer to see the two grace the same pitch. 
 
He added: “He’s a wonderful player, he’s got a lot of talent there and I can’t wait to hook up and see if our kind of connection can bring Heart forward.”
