Speaking at an event in Canberra, Kewell said he was back to full fitness and hungry to make an impact in a more central role.

"I'm 100 percent fit now. I've taken 11 months off to recoup with all my injuries... but I'm fully fit now and I'm raring to go," he said.

"I'm really looking forward to getting this tournament off to a good start."

On the reported central attacking role that Graham Arnold has hinted for Kewell he said, "It's one of my favourite positions, I won't deny that, and I'm quite sure a lot of players love that position because it's a main position.

"Once we know our opponents, once we sit down and we study them a little bit more, we'll know the formations to play. If I am to play up front or behind or left side that's fantastic - I mean, I just want to be playing."

Kewell has also backed Mark Viduka as Socceroos captain telling the ABC, "It's down to the manager's choice and at the moment, Mark's a great leader and Mark's a great captain."

"I'm quite sure every single player in that team wants him to lead us out there.

"He's the right man for the job, he'll show the way in the Asian Cup, and whatever happens in the future happens."
