The former Socceroo is currently coaching Watford’s Under-21 side after taking up the post last year.

Kewell was glowing in his appraisal of the exponential growth the A-League is experiencing and said he would love to help the game further prosper in his homeland.

“Of course, I mean I get to watch the A-League over here so the game is shown here frequently,” the former Leeds and Liverpool told Outside 90.

“It’s a good league and you’ve got some exciting young coaches over there.

“It’s always something that you’d be very proud to be associated with. It’s a very passionate league and it’s getting stronger and stronger so of course I would love to do it. It’s my home country, so why wouldn’t you?”

However, the former Melbourne Victory ace confirmed he was yet to be approached about a homecoming.

“No one has ever offered or anything so my full focus is over here in Europe,” he said.

“It’s just that when you get past that you would look at your options. If you got offered Asia you would look at that. If you got offered in Europe of course you would look at that.”

A move home could be viewed as a step down with Kewell harbouring ambitions to eventually manage a Premier League club.

“But I am at a Premiership club and a club that is strong and it’s a club that is growing,” the 38-year-old said.

“The people, the players and the support you get there is incredible. The facilities are great. I mean, I just got two brand new pitches, so why would you (leave)?

“You are training on one pitch and you have got (Watford striker) Troy Deeney on the next one. Why wouldn’t you get your strikers and say ‘come on, let’s go and have a look at him’.

“It’s all about learning.”
