Kewell was included as a standby for the Socceroos in Japan and was expected to make a return on the weekend for the Turkish Super Lig team but the comeback was delayed.

He finally made his long awaited return from a hernia operation for Galatasary in the UEFA Cup match against Bordeaux.

The Galatasary squad travelled to France for the game and Kewell was named in the first team. He played 64 minutes in the 0-0 stalemate.

In the English Premier League Mark Schwarzer had a rare off game for Fulham against Manchester United.

After twelve minutes of play a corner to United was cleared into the path of Paul Scholes who fired in a powerful volley. Schwarzer couldn't hang onto the shot and the ball bounced over the line for the opening goal. United defeated the Cottagers 3-0.

On Tuesday night Gold Coast United signing Joel Porter was on form for Hartlepool against Leicester in England's third division.

Porter asked plenty of questions of the Foxes defence and after he worked his way past two defenders and was tripped in the box by a third he was rewarded with a penalty, which he duly converted. The Pools drew 2-2 with Leicester.

Still in League One Gareth Edds played the full shift for Tranmere Rovers. He had a shot blocked but it fell to fellow Rover Charlie Barnett who netted for Tranmere. Rovers drew 1-1 with Peterborough United.
