Sources this morning claim the deal is on to bring former Melbourne Victory marquee to the red half of the city.

Reports today claim the former Liverpool, Leeds and Galatasaray star is willing to sign on for the second Melbourne side on just the minimum $48,000 a year salary.

Heart CEO Scott Munn has reportedly said the club has already been in contact with the Socceroo hero but denied a deal had been done to bring him back to the A-League.

Kewell last played earlier this month for Qatari club Al Gharafa where he notched up three games. He last played in Australia for Victory in the final round of the A-League in early 2012.

If Kewell, 34, does sign, it will add huge interest to the already feisty Melbourne derby set down for week one of the A-League on October 12 at Etihad.

The move could also reinvigorate Kewell's chances of returning to the Socceroos after spending almost a year on the outer with the national team.
