The Sydney Olympics  are still widely regarded as the most successful Games ever but Kewell is confident that Australia can put on a show to top it.

"Everything that I have seen so far and been involved with looks very impressive and hopefully it will convince the people who vote to pick us,'' Kewell told australia2018-2022.com.au, the website established to support Australia's bid for the 2018-2022 FIFA World Cup.

"I have no doubt that Australia would do an even better job than we did with the Sydney Olympics Games in 2000. Everyone still says they were the best ever."

Kewell has no idea what he will be doing in either 2018 or 2022 and his more immediate focus is the World Cup that looms large next year.

So how does he feel the Socceroos are shaping up for South Africa?

"To be honest it's too early to tell. It's all about our form and team work just before the World Cup starts,'' he said.

"What we are like now does not count for anything if we don't do well at the World Cup.''

Kewell will be looking to end the season strongly in what has been an excellent campaign for Galatasaray.

He is clearly very happy in his Turkish surroundings.

"Istanbul itself is a great city with a great lifestyle. From day one I really enjoyed living here and now that I know the place better, being my second season obviously, it's even more enjoyable," he added.

Kewell has yet to confirm his plans beyond the end of the current campaign at club level. There were reports last week that he had signed a new deal but his management team quickly rejected talk of a done deal.
