Kewell appears extremely confident that his groin problem will not scupper his hopes of facing the Germans in Australia's Group D opener.

"You work with this medical (staff) - they're fantastic. They know exactly what they're doing,'' Kewell told News Ltd.

With the first match looming, Kewell doesn't care what others may be saying about Australia's chances.

"A lot of people have written us off. We've got nothing to lose, we're going to go out there and play our football,'' he said.

"It's very important to get off to a good start in a World Cup. If you can especially get three points from the start, it near enough sets you up for the second round."

And whatever the outcome, Kewell insists Australia will make sure their opponents know they've been in a game.

He added: "It's only 11 men v 11 men at the end of the day.

"We're not going to go there and lie down, we are going to fight and if things don't come out the way we want to, we're going to make sure Germany walk off knowing that they've been in a game."
