MELBOURNE Heart skipper Harry Kewell says he’s spoken with some of England’s young stars suggesting a season in the A-League could revitalize their careers
The Socceroo great and new Heart captain spoke with FourFourTwo magazine’s special A-League season preview issue, which is out now.
In an entertaining and revealling six page feature (photographed by 442's Kevin Airs), the former Liverpool and Leeds star said younger English stars not getting game time and playing outside Premiership clubs would benefit from a season in the rapidly improving A-League.
"I've actually spoken to a few English U-21 players that I know and told them to come out here.
"They're not playing and in Championship or League One clubs and I"m saying, come out here just for a year and get your confidence up and energy levels back."
And there was another reason why they should try the A-League.
"And you're still in the shop window because the A-League is shown in Europe and Asia," Kewell added.
"So it's not as if no-one's watching the league. People are watching now... it's on Sky Sports back in England so if people want to track you, they'll track you."
It’s a candid and revealing insight into the mind of a player gunning for glory this season with the red and whites. Kewell's ’s also firmly focused on pushing for a spot in the Socceroos for the Brazil World Cup.
Kewell also speaks about his year out of the game, the Wanderers phenomenon, his former Liverpool teammate Emile Heskey and the new generation of Socceroos coming through.
