Ozil moved to England from Real Madrid on transfer deadline day and Khedira - who also played alongside Ozil at the Bernabeu - believes he is the final piece of the jigsaw for Arsene Wenger's side.

The 24-year-old has adapted to life in England quickly with three assists in three league games and he opened his Arsenal account in their 2-0 UEFA Champions League win over Napoli on Tuesday.

Khedira is convinced that Ozil will continue to inspire Arsenal and sees them as serious title contenders this season.

"Arsenal had a strong team anyway, but Mesut makes them the best team in England,” Khedira is quoted by The Sunday Mirror.

"I am sure he can be the player that makes things happen for them and win them the championship.

"Mesut is a genius on the field, there is no other way to describe him.

"Of course, there was some disappointment among the players at Madrid because he is the best in his position in the world. But I understand his decision as a player and also as my friend.

"He is already playing amazing football for Arsenal and he hasn’t even got used to the Premier League yet."

Ozil and Khedira will link-up together for the German national team this week as they prepare for FIFA World Cup qualifying matches with the Republic of Ireland and Sweden.
