United on Wednesday unveiled the central midfielder who played at the 2010 World Cup for his country and won the 2009 AFC Champions League (ACL) title with Pohang Steelers.

Speaking via an interpreter, the 33-year-old revealed after spending his entire professional career in South Korea, he had one final dream to achieve.

“As a player I feel I’ve achieved a lot,” Kim said.

“I’ve been to the World Cup in 2010, I’ve been a national team player, I’ve won championships, I’ve won the Champions League with my club in my career.

“I felt like I’ve achieved everything I could football-wise.

“There was one challenge and a dream I’ve had and that was to play overseas.

“In this late period of my career, to be able to achieve that goal is an honour.

“All the people have been very welcoming and I’m ready to play my best for the team.”

Kim, who trained with ex-Manchester United star Park Ji-Sung as a teenager at college, said his experience would be beneficial for the Reds.

He said competing in the ACL for United was a big draw, although he admitted it’d be weird representing an Australian club.

“Like you mentioned I’ve played in many Champions League matches with my clubs in Korea,” Kim said.

“I’ve experienced playing against many different clubs from different countries, Adelaide was one of them.

“One of the main reasons for joining Adelaide was to play in the Champions League for this club.

“We’re in the same group as my old club Jeju United, which is going to be weird.

“It’s going to be a different experience. No matter which club I’m playing for, I’m out there to win.”
