SOCCEROO Scott McDonald is on Kevin Keegan's Newcastle United shopping list as Celtic prepare to offer the hot-shot striker a new four-year deal to remain at Parkhead.
The 24-year-old has banged in 31 goals this season for Gordon Strachan's men and that sort of record ensures plenty of attention.
England's Sunday Express newspaper claims Newcastle are prepared to offer around $12m for the striker in a move that would see McDonald link up with Mark Viduka.
Celtic are determined to hang on to the player though with contract talks expected to begin this week.
McDonald penned a three-year deal when he joined his boyhood heroes in the summer but is not believed to be Celtic's top earner.
And, while there is no desperate need for Celtic to tie down McDonald with more than two years left on his existing deal, they don’t want to risk losing their prized asset.
McDonald could easily command a salary of $50,000-a-week at any Premiership side but is reportedly keen to pledge his future to the club he supported as a youngster growing up in Melbourne.
