The 28-year-old spent four years with Leicester City but was not retained by boss Nigel Pearson after the club's promotion to the Championship next season.

Kisnorbo told thisisleicestershire:  "I'm very disappointed to have been released. I thought I was still good enough for the team, but the gaffer said he had other plans."

The Socceroos defender said he was delighted with the support he had received from supporters since leaving the club and is keen to stress that it was not his decision to head for the exit.

"I want to thank everyone for their e-mails and messages of support and to let everyone know I'm not going because I wanted to," he said.

A-League clubs looking to tempt him home look doomed to failure though with the defender still convinced he can play at a high level in England.

Both Crystal Palace and Ipswich Town are believed to be considering moves for the player.

"I have to show Leicester next season what they are missing because I'm desperate to stay in the Championship," said Kisnorbo."There was a chance of me going out on loan, but then Leicester changed their mind.

"The gaffer told me before the last game at Crewe that I wouldn't be offered a new deal."

Kisnorbo won backing from the club's fan base, with Lance Tomlyn, chairman of the Independent Supporters' Association, insisting the Aussie would have been his first choice in any match.

He added: "I would not like to see him in a side playing against us but, having said that, I wouldn't want to go against what Pearson is thinking."

City Supporters Club chairman Cliff Ginnetta said: "Managers look at things in different ways and perhaps this one wants a bigger, stronger centre-half than Kisnorbo."
