New Zealand have finally come up with the cash to back its bid for a Wellington club...but the FFA have warned it's still not in the bag for the Kiwis.
The Wellington bid has reportedly submitted its final documentation to the FFA today who are, as we write, scrutinising the details, and won't be able to make a decision on that paperwork until later today at the earliest.
The Dominion Post in New Zealand reported that Wellington bid head John Dow had been continuing with frantic meetings with potential investors as the Kiwis fought tooth and nail to stay in the league.
Meanwhile NZ Soccer reportedly said yesterday they received clarification about claims made by A-League Operations Manager Matt Carroll that Wellington required $2 million cash in the bank.
Instead, the figure agreed last Friday stood - $1.1 million up front, with $2-3 million the figure eventually needed to run the club during the the first year, which would be 15 months long.
Dow said they were working along the lines of needing $1.1 million "in the bank" and not the $2million.
"We're getting close to a final position," reported The Post of Dow.
Townsville's bid told au.fourfourtwo.com this afternoon that "they will be submitting their documentation today to FFA and we've got till tomorrow for the FFA to decide".
"If there was an announcement about us getting into the A-League, it would probably be by Friday," said Tropical Football bid head James Gage.
"Of course, if the FFA accept the New Zealanders then that's it for us for the moment."
The soap opera continues. Stay tuned to au.fourfourtwo.com as we follow this story.
