Werder Bremen striker Ivan Klasnic is attempting to sue the club's medical team, who he believes could have prevented a kidney transplant in March 2007.
The Croatia striker believes club doctor Gotz Dimanski and cardiologist Manju Guha could have prevented his operation had they diagnosed up the problem earlier.
"If the doctors had treated me correctly then things would have gone differently," said the 28-year-old.
"The people who have created this mess will have to pay. Enough is enough now, the truth must come out."
According to Germany'sSpiegel magazine, Klasnic is claiming 1.4 million euros in damages after learning from other privately employed doctors that his kidney could have been saved.
"I will never allow Dr Dimanski to treat me ever again," added Klasnic.
