Defeats to Borussia Dortmund and Internazionale in pre-season as well as a disappointing display in Sunday's 4-3 DFB-Pokal first-round win over Rot-Weiss Erfurt have set the alarm bells ringing, and the coach did himself no favours by lowering his own expectations.

Klinsmann told the Welt am Sonntag newspaper he felt his job was "a long-term project", claiming winning silverware immediately should not be the priority.

However, chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and president Franz Beckenbauer have both reminded him of the club's expectations.

"Jurgen has turned a lot of things on their head, but now the results have got to be right otherwise all these changes are worthless," Beckenbauer told Kicker magazine.

Rummenigge added in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung: "Even if the people responsible for the club were patient, the public would see it differently.

"Success is expected from FC Bayern with all the changes which have been made and everybody at FC Bayern must work with this pressure.

"We don't have to be German champions every year, but we must be in the Champions League each year."

Bayern begin the defence of their Bundesliga title against Hamburg on Friday night.
