Klopp's men stormed to victory with goals from Shinji Kagawa and Mats Hummels complementing a Robert Lewandowski hat-trick.

The cup win completed a domestic double for Dortmund after a second straight Bundesliga title was sealed earlier this term.

"It was a Pokal final that no-one in Dortmund could have imagined going any better. We were cool, scored great goals ... what's going on inside us definitely cannot be put into words," Klopp said.

It was a message echoed by captain Sebastian Kehl, who felt that his side were worthy victors in the Berlin showpiece.

"We've shown that we rightly won the championship and the cup. We were always there," Kehl said.

"It was an indescribable feeling we had today. Five goals against Bayern – sensational."

Saturday's victory ended a 23-year-run without the DFB Pokal for Dortmund.

Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes conceded his side deserved defeat and was highly critical of their performance.

"We cannot complain," Heynckes told reporters. "Our entire defensive play was disastrous. We have only ourselves to blame. We did not deserve to win.

"That said, we have a very major goal in mind: the Champions League final. By then we should have all recovered from the shock (of this defeat).

"This was a very different game."
