MIROSLAV Klose and Andre Schurrle admitted Germany's attitude was not up to scratch as they suffered a shock 2-1 friendly defeat to Australia yesterday.
Joachim Low's side squandered a half-time lead given to them by Mario Gomes in Dortmund as David Carney equalised and Luke Wilkshire's penalty just three minutes later earned the Socceroos victory.
There was frustration for Germany as the penalty appeared a soft award, Harry Kewell tumbling under contact from Christian Trasch, but they were the architects of their own downfall for Carney's equaliser as the Blackpool utility man was allowed to run onto his own pass before finishing.
Klose replaced Gomes with 17 minutes remaining but missed a good chance before being booked for a dive late on.
And he told the Bundesliga website: "Ultimately friendly matches raise the question of whether professionals can motivate themselves in the same way.
"Everyone has important upcoming Bundesliga matches at the back of their minds and that makes it hard.
"It's a question of mentality. You can be as well prepared and focused as ever, but somehow you just seem to take your foot off the pedal.
"It shouldn't be the case, but unfortunately it is."
His thoughts were echoed by Mainz youngster Schurrle, who admitted: "We conceded two very silly goals and it wasn't possible to get back due to the fact that the team did not have the proper attitude."
