The Dutchman, who only took charge of the Primera Liga side last November, has come under increasing pressure despite leading the club to the Copa del Rey title on Wednesday.

Successive defeats in their last three games against Real Mallorca, Real Murcia and Racing Santander have left Valencia in 15th spot in La Liga, only five points above the drop zone.

On Thursday the club released an official statement backing their coach and deying that another person has been contacted as a replacement.

On Friday Koeman said he had to believe in what he had been told by the club and said he would have to wait and see if it turns out to be true.

"I have to believe people," he said.

"If there was a statement and a phone call from Rafael Salom (sporting vice-president) I have to believe in that, because if not, I'm working with dishonest people.

"I have to believe that what they have told me is true. We'll see if they are true to their word."

Despite the cup win Valencia are currently 16th in La Liga, only five points clear of the relegation zone.
