SYDNEY FC coach Vitezslav Lavicka has played down the hype surrounding rising star Kofi Danning and wants him to stay in the A-League for at least two more seasons before heading overseas.
Danning, 18, is one of the brightest young players to burst onto the A-League over the last 12 months.
Picked up from the AIS heading into the start of last season, the right sided midfielder starred in the club's youth league side which won the inaugural youth A-League.
The Ghanaian born starlet debuted for the sky blues last season under John Kosmina and has continued to develop in the six months since.
Last week his stunning goal and an assist in the 3-2 win over Fury in Townsville has marked him down as having a breakthrough season this year.
"Kofi is very good player. Quick, strong, and with very good potential to be top player in football," said Lavicka. "Maybe after couple of years he will play in Europe or somewhere."
Asked if he was good enough to take the next step in his club career and Lavicka was keen not to talk up his player too soon.
"He is good enough for us in this moment," he said. "He is an important part of our team in this moment. He is able to help us make a good success."
Born in Kumasi, Ghana, Danning is currently waiting on a FIFA rule that will allow him to play for the Young Socceroos in the World Youth Championships in Egypt next month.
As it stands, Danning would have to wait another five years to make his national team debut for the green and gold.
Another more immediate battle will be Sunday against Adelaide. Danning's tussle down the right with Adelaide's young defender Scott Jamieson looms as an intriguing battle between two very quick and skillful future Socceroos.
