The Belgian was ruled out of his country's final two FIFA World Cup qualifiers after picking up the problem in City's 3-1 win over Everton earlier this month.

Kompany was withdrawn from that game after 34 minutes and manager Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed that he will be without his captain for the trip to Upton Park.

"Vincent is working hard. He is not ready to play but I hope that next week he will do," Pellegrini said on Friday.

"(Martin) Demichelis played 45 minutes with the Under-21s on Wednesday, I think he's in the same shape as Kompany, I hope that next week he'll be ready."

However, Pellegrini can call on Jack Rodwell in midfield after the former Everton man recovered from a hamstring injury.

"Jack Rodwell has no problems, he is fit," the Chilean added.
