GOALKEEPER Jung Sung-ryeong opened the scoring for South Korea as the under-23 side defeated Ivory Coast 2-1 in a warm-up match for next month's Olympics.
The Seongnam stopper's long goal-kick in the 40th minute bounced over his opposite number and into the net to thrill the home fans at Suwon World Cup Stadium.
The bizarre goal capped an impressive and energetic display from Park Sung-hwa's men, who will take on Italy, Cameroon and Honduras at the Beijing Games.
In-form striker Lee Keun-ho increased the hosts' lead just before the hour mark, the Daegu star converting a fine cross from Zenit St Petersburg defender Kim Dong-jin - one of two over-age players included in the Olympic squad.
The visitors, outclassed for much of the match, pulled a goal back with 15 minutes remaining when frontman Gervais Yao Kouassi took advantage of poor defending to ensure a nervous final few minutes.
"We played very well at times," coach Park said after the match. "There is still work to do before we head to China. We should have sealed the win before the end but we will work hard in training."
South Korea are in action once more before the Olympics - at home to Australia on July 31.
