National broadcaster KBS reported on Wednesday that the Korean Football Association (KFA) have decided to end Cho's contract following last month's 2014 World Cup qualification defeat in Lebanon.

Cho took the job in July 2010 and was widely criticised for the result in Beirut that left the team needing a point in the final group game against Kuwait in February in order to progress to the final stage.

There are a number of possible replacements in the running according to KBS.

The favourite is named as former Korea Republic assistant coach Afshin Ghotbi, now the head coach of Shimizu S-Pulse in the J-League, coach of 2011 K-League champions Jeonbuk Motors Choi Kang-hee and Hong Myong-bo, currently in charge of Korea Republic's Olympic team.
