Speaking after Sydney FC returned from Brisbane following their A-League finals exit to Queensland on Friday night, Kosmina said luck finally ran out for his side.

“You can be really positive about it in terms of what we've done – two losses in 14-odd games - but I'm also gutted about the result. The players are as well.

“I don't know what we did to deserve the luck we had last night,” added Kosmina when quizzed about the penalty decision and a handball claim.

“Maybe we just ran out of luck... we have ridden our luck a little too much. But it didn't work out for whatever reason but let's just get on with it.. goals win championships.”

Despite being down to ten men for most of the game, Sydney were still in the contest right up until the second goal – a fact Kosmina acknowledged.

“Look, even with five minutes to go I thought we still were battling away trying to score and before the penalty we were still in the game.

As for the Queensland penalty, Kosmina explained: “It looked a bit soft. Tony Popovic is a big guy and Tahj Minniecon is a little guy and little guys tend to fall over in front of big guys.

“In comparison, Matty McKay had a hold of Brosque's [Alex Brosque] shirt. Whether it was inside or outside the box, I'm not too sure but in comparison, I suppose they were equal.”

He added: “The consolation prize is a trip to Hawaii which everyone thinks is rather nice but I'd much rather be driving to Gosford or Newcastle next weekend.”

Juninho is still under contract with Sydney FC and will play in Honolulu if fit while it is unclear at this stage whether the departing Ufuk Talay will be selected for the tournament.

And Sydney FC winger Adam Biddle shrugged off an on-field spat with keeper Clint Bolton, who could be seen angrily yelling at the youngster after the final whistle. Biddle described the incident as a misunderstanding.
