The former Adelaide United boss is expected to be named the new club manager at 2pm today, despite the fact that he's currently banned from the touchline for his first four matches.

Kosmina was suspended for his behaviour after Adelaide's 6-0 Grand Final defeat at the end of last season and was axed by United before he could serve the ban.

He will be unable to see his new team for an hour before the match and banned from any contact with them - even by phone or walkie talkie - until after the final whistle.

It's believed Sydney chairman Andrew Kemeny personally brokered the deal to bring Kosmina to the club on the basis of their long-standing friendship.

Since being released by Adelaide, Kosmina has been playing an assistant coach's role with the national team at senior and Olyroos level.

Kosmina will be Sydney's fourth coach in just two and a half seasons since the A-League began.

Pierre Littbarski left after winning the Championship when the board asked him to take a huge pay cut.

Terry Butcher was sacked when his brand of football turned away fans and failed to get the club into the semi-finals of the A-League championship.

And Culina was axed this week after a string of poor results.
