If the talented 21-year-old forward does move from Suncorp, it will be a big blow to coach Ange Postecoglou’s newly crowned A-League champions.

Roar recently lost Costa Rican striker Jean Carlos Solorzano to Melbourne Victory and along with Barbarouses, the pair bagged 23 goals in a barnstorming season.

Solorzano’s move prompted departing Roar CEO Peter McLennan to claim the champions weren’t too worried about other clubs snatching their talented roster.

“I don’t see any reason why we won’t have 85-90 percent of this squad over the next 18 months,” he told this website last month.

It’s understood English Championship clubs are also looking at Barbarouses.

The Wellington-born speedster enjoyed a breakthrough campaign after becoming Postecoglou’s first Roar signing in the off-season.

He scored 12 goals and started in 29 of his 33 games and he clearly thrived under Postecoglou’s free-flowing, mobile style of football.

Barbarouses was also called up for New Zealand’s recent friendly draw against China where he played as a second half substitute in the 1-1 draw.
