Monday’s earthquake forced the match between Wellington Phoenix and Melbourne Victory to be postponed due to superficial damage that included burst water pipes, concrete cracking and spalling and broken windows.

FFA, in consultation with the Phoenix and stadium management, decided to postpone the match.

The earthquake has shutdown a further 60 buildings in Wellington and Krishna said the initial shock was frightening.

“Yes, I was there, it was a pretty scary moment,” he said.” Our apartment is 100% earthquake proof so nothing major just some windows were broken but apart from that we are safe.”

Krishna and his team mates had just flown home after a convincing 2-0 win away against the Mariners in Canberra on Saturday afternoon.

The win over Central Coast was the Kiwi’s second in a row.

And after starting the season with three consecutive losses, the Fiji international said the victory had renewed the team’s confidence.

“Yeah it was a pretty good win especially with a few of the boys missing from the side, “he said.

“After the two wins everyone is getting more confident. Obviously if you win you get more confidence. After these two wins we can be more comfortable on the ball and you can see the belief around the boys is pretty high.”

Krishna has scored four goals in his last three appearances including the opener against the Mariners.

The 29-year-old credited the Phoenix coaching staff for his current form.

“Every striker wants to score goals and after scoring four in six games the confidence is there,” he said. But we’ve been training hard especially up front with our assistant coach Chris Greenacre. “He did a great job with us, to be more patient up front and that showed on the weekend so hopefully it can continue like it has.”

The two international windows during the opening five rounds of the A-League have affected Wellington's abiliy to play their full strength side, but Krishna refused to use that as an excuse for Phoenix's poor start.

“It’s frustrating,” he said. “But we’ve got great depth in the squad, so even though the players were missing we showed on the weekend that the reserve players can step up and do the job.  That’s part of football, especially with Phoenix, we’ve got a lot of players that are going to play for the All Whites and for some games I will be missing.

“We didn’t start well but that is in the past now and we’ve got to move on. After three games that we lost it was frustrating but as you can see now we have improved and especially upfront with Hamish Watson coming in and Kosta Barbarouses and the other boys on the bench who are waiting for their chances we’ve got great depth.”

“We didn’t start well but we were doing the same thing in the first three games and it’s just the moments and then the confidence.”
