Krishna has been riding the wave of a successful season in front of goal for Phoenix, notching up 11 goals and putting himself in second spot for the Golden Boot, behind Adam Le Fondre on 12.

But his performance from the spot has been underwhelming, and his miss against the Jets – his seventh from 13 – was a crushing blow.

The save from the spot by Jets keeper (and Krishna's former team-mate) Glen Moss in the 87th minute condemned the New Zealand side to just a share of the points.

And it was reminiscent of Krishna's previous miss against the Jets in 2015, when his penalty blunder denied Wellington a draw.

Now coach Mark Rudan has revealed the Fijian has hung up his spotkick boots.

"Roy has declared himself unavailable for penalties, going forward," said Rudan after training in Auckland today, ahead of their clash with Melbourne Victory at Eden Park.

"I don't work on penalties. It's not something that is an important part of the game as far as I'm concerned. It's something the players choose to do with their extras.

"Some work on it, some don't. Roy is always on top of it, which kind of disappoints me even more because he does work a lot on taking penalties.

"But I don't care. For me it is normally a good sign of who decides to go straight for the ball up and picks the ball up. It''s all about confidence.

"Anyone can step up, whether it's a goalkeeper or a striker, I don't really care. All I care about is that ball hitting the back of the net – and we need to do it."
