The Phoenix went from title contenders in 2014-15 to league battlers in 2015-16.

The club has made several astute signings in the off-season headlined by Gui Finkler and Kosta Barbarouses as well as Italian defender Marco Rossi.

Fiji international Krishna is also fully fit again after an injury-affected 2015-16 campaign in a major boost for Ernie Merrick’s ambitious outfit.

“We want to make the top two and hopefully win the league,” Krishna said.

“We’ve got to take it each game as it comes.

“Every team in this league has signed some good players, so we’ll take it each games as it comes.

“But like I said we want to make the top two.”

Krishna enjoyed a breakout 2014-15 season where he netted nine goals as Wellington pushed for the premiership before a late season fade.

He said he was looking forward to working with Finkler and Barbarouses and the service they’d bring.

“With Kosta’s pace up front and Gui’s passing through, you just need to be in the right place at the right time,” he said.

“With the signings we have it’s going to be an exciting season.”

Krishna only managed 16 appearances and six goals last term due to ankle issues but is fully fit and has benefitted from his experience at the Rio Olympics with Fiji.

Fiji were thrashed by South Korea, Mexico and Germany at the tournament but Krishna netted his country’s only goal and enjoyed facing top opponents.

As for his injury troubles, Krishna was hopeful of putting them behind him.

“Every player’s nightmare is to get injured and I was one of them,” he said.

“The medical team really helped me a lot. I played the last five or six games and I needed more.

“Going to Rio and experiencing it with the big boys, I’ve learnt a lot and I’m looking forward to it.”
