Kruse scored a goal and helped set up another in a result that helped Dusseldorf move two points clear of the relegation zone in the Bundesliga.

The home side opened the scoring in first-half injury time with Kruse finishing from inside the penalty area after being found by Andreas Lambertz.

Kruse then turned provider in the 63rd minute, with the Australian teeing up Stefan Reisinger to double Dusseldorf's lead.

The win sees Norbert Meier's side move to 13th place on the table, just three points behind Hamburg, whose loss was compounded by an injury to star midfielder Rafael van der Vaart in the first half that required the former Tottenham man to be substituted.
