Socceroos forward Robbie Kruse made a superb starting debut by netting a double beat Mainz 4-1 in the German Bundesliga on Saturday.
Kruse played his part as Leverkusen bounced back after their midweek UEFA Champions League defeat to Manchester United.
Handed his maiden start on the back of three appearances off the bench this season, Kruse calmly finished two opportunities before providing an assist for Lars Bender.
Kruse, who completed a move from Fortuna Dusseldorf at the end of last season, was substituted in the 75th minute as Leverkusen consolidated third place on the table.
Stefan Kiessling added a fourth goal for Sam Hyypia's men before Yunus Malli scored a consolation for the hosts, who dropped to seventh place following their third consecutive defeat.
With the win, Hyypia's charges became the first Leverkusen side to amass 15 points from the opening six league games.
