Kruse and Zullo were thrown in at the deep end as Roar struggled for goals in the early part of season three and they provided the spark to ignite the push for a finals spot.

It was a different story last year. Zullo became a Roar regular and secured Socceroos honours while Kruse struggled for game time and endured problems off the pitch.

It led to speculation that the player could be on his way out of the club but he appears to have fought his way back into contention and recently rejected the chance to join Wellington Phoenix as their marquee youth player.

He is expected to get another chance to impress Frank Farina this evening when Roar travel to face Brisbane Olympic, after Kruse came close to a goal in last week's win over Redlands.

Zullo, who teed up the only goal of that match, told au.fourfourtwo.com: "I hope Robbie has a future here (at Roar). I think he's looking like the old Robbie and his football talent shines through.

"I hope he stays this year. He has matured as a person and a player."

While Zullo is hoping his friend can fire for Roar once again, he is also looking eagerly ahead to next month's clash with Celtic at Suncorp Stadium.

He said: "I think it will be a fantastic opportunity against a massive club. I'm really keen to get out there and play against Scott McDonald."

Tickets for the Celtic clash went on general sale at 9am today.   Roar general manager Peter McLennan encouraged fans to get in early to avoid missing out on the annual Queensland Roars Against Racism match.

"The green and white hoops are recognisable all around the world and it will be a real treat for Brisbane Roar fans to witness this match first-hand," he said.
