Speaking from Brasilia, the 24-year-old has talked up the Socceroos' chances of causing an upset on what is a national holiday for the 2014 World Cup hosts.

The Bayer Leverkusen player is likely to start in an advanced role for the Socceroos along with Tommy Oar, Brett Holman and Josh Kennedy.

And despite having confidence in his team's ability, he is all too aware of the quality of opposition Australia will be going up against.

"It is going to be difficult but it gives us an indication of where we are on the map of world football," said the former Melbourne Victory star.

"Hopefully in attack we can create some opportunities, try and score some goals and see how it goes."

Kruse praised how hard the team has worked and has emphasised that the friendly match is great opportunity to further develop as a team ahead of the World Cup.

"It's also good for the boys to come together and familiarise again," said Kruse.

"Hopefully it's all building towards next year, (we have a) couple more games next month and hopefully we can impress a few people along the way."

Despite looking forward to the friendly match against the Selecao, Kruse is hopeful that the Socceroos can avoid lining up against Brazil during the World Cup itself next year.

"I'd probably prefer not to play them; you don't really want to play any of the good teams in the group," Kruse said.

"But I'm sure you're going to get drawn with someone so there are probably a few other teams I would rather get drawn with, but there is a lot to happen from now until then."

Speaking about his 1.5 million-euro move to Leverkusen, Kruse is happy with the way he is settling in after making a 71st-minute appearance in a 2-0 loss against Schalke on Saturday.

"I'm enjoying it, the standard is such a step-up and it's a wonderful level," said Kruse

"I feel like I'm adjusting and I'm competing up there (at that level)."

Kruse's meteoric rise may also see him stepping onto the Theatre of Dreams later this month when Manchester United host Leverkusen in the Champions League.

"I've just got to keep working hard," said Kruse.

"The Champions League is coming up in a couple of weeks and we're playing at Old Trafford, so it's a big month for me and hopefully I start getting some more opportunities."

∆ Meanwhile Luke Wilkshire has been ruled out of the Socceroos side with injury and has flown back to his club in Russia. Neither he nor Tim Cahill, also ruled out by an ankle injury, will be replaced in the squad.
