The Melbourne Victory striker is set to leave Australia immediately after after the Serbia game as he commences his first Bundesliga pre-season following his move to Fortuna Dusseldorf.

The exciting 22-year-old is looking forward to the Serbia clash as a farewell to the fans and believes the fan culture in Melbourne will make for a special night.

“It’s an honour to play for your country so hopefully if I’m selected and get my chance in these two games [against New Zealand on June 5 also] they’re both friendlies so hopefully some of the fringe players can get a go," he said today.

“And Victoria has some massive fans here. You see Melbourne Heart and Melbourne Victory games and the crowds are always bumping … so I’m sure it’ll be a massive crowd like some of the fans I play in front of every week.

“I’ll be departing after that to Germany so hopefully I can cap it off, have a good turnout and play good.”

Potentially Kruse could find himself being marked by Manchester United’s Serbian centre half Nemanja Vidic.Kruse said the opportunity, if it came along, would be priceless.

“You see these players play in the English Premier League every week and fantastic players. He’ll be turning out in the Champions League final in a few weeks so it’d be a massive challenge. And they’ve got a really good team ranked 16 in the world.

“It’s going to be a massive challenge and something I’m sure Holger [Osieck] and the boys will be looking forward to.”

While Tim Cahill is likely to be rested FFA CEO Ben Buckley said the squad would be a mix.

"We'll see the best of the golden generation as well as the wonderful next generation of Socceroos who are embodied in Robbie Kruse.

“I’m sure there’ll be one or two players who after a long season may not be available but if those players aren’t available it offers opportunity for young players coming through the system. Football fans are very keen to see who the next generation of Socceroos are and we’ve seen that with Matty McKay and Robbie Kruse. “

Buckley also played down speculation of security after Serbian fans had caused problems at the Australian Open tennis in Melbourne in recent years.

He added: “We believe it’ll be an outstanding match as we prepare for those all-important World Cup qualifiers coming up in September as we head towards Brazil.”

Tickets are on sale as of next Thursday May 12.
