Adelaide United coach Marco Kurz says damage to the Coopers Stadium pitch following last week’s Foo Fighters concert at the venue won’t be used an excuse for their clash with Perth Glory.
The Reds and Glory will meet at the venue on Saturday, after Dave Grohl’s Foo Fighters performed at Coopers Stadium on Tuesday 23 January.
The pitch surface was badly affected by the contest, meaning United had to forego a scheduled training session at Coopers Stadium on Friday.
Despite that, Kurz declined to condemn stadium management or use the surface’s condition as an excuse.
“I have not seen the pitch but I don’t expect a good pitch after the concert,” Kurz said.
“I think it’s the same or both teams. It’s not a reason to not play good tomorrow.
“The pitch is not the same quality as before but for our team it’s not a problem because we know both teams must play tomorrow.”
The German boss also wouldn’t be drawn on missing out on a training session at their home ground ahead of the encounter.
“I think one day more rest for recovery for the pitch is better,” he said.
“For me, it’s not a reason to play bad or to perform bad. It’s not a reason to think too much about.
Kurz cited the example of ex-club Fortuna Dusseldorf in his homeland who play at the Esprit Arena but don’t own it.
He added there was no simple solution to the issue except to win.
“The solution is to play tomorrow so good that we get the three points,” he said.
“We cannot build a stadium in one week. It’s very important because Perth is a team that wants to make the finals.”
