Rangers arrive next week ahead of the Sydney Festival of Football kicking off on July 25. Walter Smith's side play the A-League champions Sydney FC, Blackburn Rovers and AEK Athens beginning on July 25 to July 31 at the SFS.

Lafferty, 23, a Northern Ireland international, hopes the tournament will see him continue where he left off last season.

"The campaign probably ended at a bad time for me and in one respect, it was similar to my first year here," he told the official Sydney Festival of Football match day program.

"Back then, I took a while to get going but towards the end of the campaign I finally found my feet and started scoring goals. I ended up finishing on a real high with my goal against Dundee United the day we won the title at Tannadice and the same sort of thing happened again in May.

"I feel I showed in a few of the games a couple of months ago what I can do. I got a few goals and it's something I'm looking to build on. I know I took a long time to find a rhythm but hopefully this season is going to be different."

Rangers kick off the festival with a clash against EPL side Blackburn Rovers. And Lafferty, a former Burnley man, can't wait to play Rovers, a side that was a big rival of the Turf Moor club.

He added: "There is going to be more pressure on me with less strikers in the pool and a few others moving on too but I'm actually looking forward to that. I think there's still enough firepower in the squad amongst the forwards for us to go out and do the job we need to do."
