This weekend's Primera Division fixtures are to go ahead as planned after the Spanish players' union (AFE) failed in its bid to have the schedule of Sunday's five matches altered.
The AFE had taken the Spanish football league (LFP) to court following a dispute over the next round of fixtures, with the AFE upset about the scheduling of games on January 2, which was designated a holiday for its members according to a 2008 agreement with the LFP.
However, the court today announced it did not have jurisdiction to rule on the case.
Therefore, half of the 17th round of Primera Division matches are due to be played on Sunday as previously announced by the LFP - including Barcelona-Levante, Valencia-Espanyol and Sevilla-Osasuna - with the remaining five taking place on Monday.
The LFP has also scheduled 10 of the 11 Segunda Division matches for Sunday.
LFP president Jose Luis Astiazaran told reporters today: "The most important thing is that there is going to be football this weekend."
