La Rocca was sent off in the very last minute of the Wanderers' 1-1 draw with local rivals Sydney on Saturday night and felt the full force of the A-League's Match Review Panel on Monday.

The ban means the versatile Italian won't play again this season, missing out on the club's quest to win the Premiers' Plate this weekend a potential grand final appearance, unless he susccessfully appeals against the ban.

It's a huge blow for La Rocca and the Wanderers, who are battling an increasing injury toll at the wrong end of the season.

Sydney midfielder Brett Emerton, who was also red-carded in the derby, was given a one-game ban for his lunging tackle on Shannon Cole.

Emerton will miss the club's final round match with the Brisbane Roar, which the Sky Blues need to win to ensure they qualify for the finals.
