The England star gave interim coach Guus Hiddink the perfect send-off when he sent a 20-yard shot into the top corner in the 72nd minute.

Everton had stunned Chelsea with the quickest goal in FA Cup final history when Louis Saha fired home in just 25 seconds.

But Didier Drogba's header levelled the scores before half-time and then Lampard provided the Dutch coach with his leaving present.

"The goal is right up there," said Lampard. "As a player you want to score big goals and the big ones stick in your and this is right up there.

"It is very special. Personally it is great to score the winning goal and it will probably sink in a bit later.

"But as a group and a team, we deserved it today. Take nothing away from Everton, they did exceptionally well to get to Wembley.

"But after the season we've had, the hard work we've put in and how close we got to the Champions League final, it was very important for us to win.

"It was a sloppy start. We give away the quickest goal ever and so that was something we had to respond to.

"We are very strong mentally and believe in ourselves and once they scored we started to play and knock the ball around."

Lampard celebrated his goal by running around the corner flag as a tribute to father Frank senior.

"It was just for my dad," added Lampard.

"My dad scored against Everton many years ago and he ran round the corner flag, albeit in a semi-final. It was the proudest moment in his career and so it was just a little thing for my dad."
