The clubs came to an agreement for an undisclosed amount on Wednesday night after a negotiation process which lasted five weeks. Langerak was contracted for another two seasons to the A-League club.

Victory football operations manager Gary Cole said while the club did not want to lose its first choice goalkeeper, it also did not want to stand in the way of Langerak's development and move to Europe.

"It's an unbelievable opportunity for Mitch, to go and play with a club that has just finished fifth in the Bundesliga," Cole said.

"It's a remarkable opportunity for him and a significant deal for Melbourne Victory Football Club. It sends a great message to our young players that there's a pathway through Australian football into some of the premier competitions of Europe."

Langerak is yet to come to personal terms with Dortmund and will undergo a medical in the coming weeks. The 21-year-old is understandably excited about his chance, but is keeping a lid on things until he gets a medical clearance and sings a deal.

"At this point, it's still up in the air, the clubs have agreed terms and I'm very happy with that. Until it's signed and done, I'll be a lot happier then," he said.

"I wanted to take this opportunity as Borussia Dortmund is a massive club with a fantastic history. For me to get the opportunity is something I'm grateful for."

Langerak admits it has been a frustrating process, with Melbourne initially rejecting an offer from the club in April, but that was all water under the bridge.

"Now I just want to get over there and do my medical and sort some things out," he said.

Cole said that Borussia Dortmund has been very enthusiastic in its pursuit of Langerak and that the club clearly believe he is a massive talent.

"I can tell you quite clearly that the sports director, Michael Zorc, think incredibly highly of him," he said.

Langerak's final match for the club is likely to be Friday night's testimonial for club captain Kevin Muscat against a Come Play XI at AAMI Park. Muscat said he was delighted to see Langerak, who he has previously described as one of the most talented young keepers he has worked with, move to Europe and further his career.

"I think it's a testament to the effort he has put in and cream always does rise. The 15 or 16 games he's played have been outstanding for us. I said two months ago, it would be hard for the football club to hold him back and it's eventuated and we are happy for him," Muscat said.

Socceroos defender Craig Moore, who will be watching Muscat's testimonial in Melbourne on Friday, said this opportunity could be the making of Langerak as a player.

"He's going over at a fantastic age. If everything goes well, he is going to a fantastic club. He'll learn a great deal and I'm sure he'll continue to show what he has shown here at the Victory and he's got a great ability and hopefully can take it on from there," he said.

Meanwhile, Cole has confirmed that Melbourne, which already has All Whites international Glen Moss on its books, has already begun a search for a replacement.

He added: "We've started that process. We're looking for another goalkeeper. Glen Moss is an international goalkeeper who is about to go and play at least one game in the World Cup.

"We've brought Glen Moss here last year, full of confidence in him, he's a fantastic player and I'm sure he'll be ready to try and regain that No.1 spot."
