Socceroos shot-stopper Mitchell Langerak kept a clean sheet as VfB Stuttgart returned to the summit of the German 2.Bundesliga to boost their promotion hopes overnight.
Stuttgart made it back-to-back wins since the resumption of the German second tier following the winter break, defeating Fortuna Dusseldorf 2-0 on Tuesday morning (AEDT).
Langerak didn’t have a particularly busy shift, with Stuttgart dominant with two first-half goals, before shutting down their opponents in the second 45.
The result moves Stuttgart three points clear of second-placed Hannover at the halfway point of the season.
Stuttgart had lost to their nearest rivals Hannover and Eintracht Braunschweig in the final two games prior to the winter break, halting their promotion push.
Langerak has played every 2.Bundesliga game this season for Stuttgart.
