Laporta will face a battle to keep his position as president of the Catalan club this summer after a Barcelona fan collected the 5882 member signatures required to request a motion of censure and open up a vote for a new president.

But the 45-year-old lawyer believes that the signings made by the club since the end of the season put him in a strong position to face the vote with confidence.

"The signings we've made remind of the summer of 2004 (the summer prior to Barca's first league title under Laporta). This makes me look at things positively and I'm more excited than ever," he told Spanish newspaper AS.

"We're happy with the new players who've come in and we have talented players in this squad, like (Leo) Messi, Xavi (Hernandez) and (Thierry) Henry, who attract the same media attention as any player in the world. Messi is a role model to people around the world."

So far the club have signed former Barca youth player Gerard Pique from Manchester United, Villarreal defender Martin Caceres, Sevilla's Seydou Keita, and are reported to have completed the signing of another Sevilla player, Daniel Alves.

More names are expected to be joining the club as the Blaugranes enter a new era under new coach Pep Guardiola.

However, one name which Laporta feels should not be mentioned around the Nou Camp is that of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Reports in Spain suggest that former Barcelona vice president Sandro Rosell will promise to bring the Manchester United star to Catalonia when he stands as a candidate to the Barca presidency.

But Laporta insists the Portuguese winger should not be used to try and oust him from office.

"We're making our team and the question about Cristiano Ronaldo has nothing to do with the motion of censure," he said.
